How to say “Hello” in French

Hello in French

Here is the first thing to say when you want to talk to a French person: Hello!

In French, when you want to use a French word for Hello, you can say Bonjour if you are in the day, and Bonsoir, after something like 6pm or 7pm, especially in Winter when the sun falls down early.

For an informal conversation, you can also say Salut or even Hello… If you are with a friend, especially in a writting communication (email, tchat), you can say Coucou.

As you can see, there are several ways to translate Hello to French, depending on context.

Et voilà! I hope the french lesson of today taught you something useful,
